Oct. 1, 2000

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Tailback Ken Simonton of Oregon State, defensive end Idris Haroon of Arizona and punter Kurtis Doerr of Oregon have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week in football.

Simonton, a junior from Pittsburg, Calif., led Oregon State to a 31-21 upset win against No. 8-ranked USC, which snapped the Trojans' Pac-10-record 26-game winning streak against the Beavers. Simonton rushed 37 times for a career-high 234 yards (6.3) and three touchdowns of 20, 2 and 36 yards. It was the second-highest rushing total ever against USC and marked Simonton's 16th career 100-yard rushing game. Simonton currently leads the nation in rushing at 177.3 yards per game.

Haroon, a senior from Houston, Tex., was a defensive leader in Arizona's 27-3 upset victory at Stanford. Haroon returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown and had a quarterback sack as Arizona limited Stanford to just three points, 23 points below the Cardinal average entering the game. The Arizona defense held Stanford to 68 yards rushing, 245 yards total offense and forced six Cardinal turnovers. The Wildcat defense has not allowed a touchdown for eight consecutive quarters.

Doerr, a senior from Waterford, Wisc., played a key role in Oregon's 23-16 win against No. 6-ranked Washington. He averaged 41.7 yards on six punts with a long of 55 yards. Four of his kicks were downed inside the 20-yard line and two downed inside the 10-yard line as his performance greatly contributed to Washington's average starting field position being its own 17-yard line.

Also nominated for offensive player of the week honors were wide receiver Milton Wynn of Washington State, center Reggie Sampay of Arizona and tailbacks Maurice Morris of Oregon and Michael Williams of Arizona State. Others nominated on defense were backs Terrance Carroll of Oregon State and Mory Banks of Washington State and linebackers Robert Thomas of UCLA, Matt Smith of Oregon and Adam Archuleta of Arizona State.
