WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo of Washington, defensive end Andre Carter of California and kicker David Newbury of USC have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week in football.

Tuiasosopo, a senior from Woodinville, Wash., directed Washington to a 34-29 upset win against No. 4-ranked Miami. Tuiasosopo completed 18 of 31 passes (.581) for 223 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown strike, and rushed 15 times for 45 yards with a 12-yard touchdown run.

Carter, a senior from San Jose, Calif., led California's defensive effort in the Golden Bears' 24-21 upset win against Utah. Carter had a team-high seven unassisted tackles, including three tackles for losses, one of which was a quarterback sack. He also recovered one of the three fumbles forced by the California defense.

Newbury, a junior from Corsicana, Tex., nailed a game-winning 24-yard field goal with 13 seconds remaining in the game to give USC a 17-14 win against Colorado.

Also nominated for offensive player of the week honors were quarterbacks Carson Palmer of USC and Kyle Boller of California and tailbacks Ken Simonton of Oregon State and DeShaun Foster of UCLA. Others nominated on defense were linemen Larry Tripplett of Washington, LaDairis Jackson of Oregon State and Anthony Fletcher of UCLA and linebacker Markus Steele of USC. Linebacker Tyler Krambrink of Washington and kicker Josh Frankel of Oregon were nominated for special teams play.
