UW Men's Golfers Finish 11th at Red River Classic

Dallas - The Washington men's golf team recorded its worst round of play at the two-day, 54-hole Taylor Made Red River Classic to drop from eighth place into an 11th-place finish. The Huskies carded a final day score of 301 after shooting 287 and 285 on the first day of play.

The tournament, held at the Dallas Athletic Club, was won by USC. The Trojans finished with a two-day total of 848, three strokes better than runner-up Texas Christian. Texas took third-place honors with a score of 853.

Washington junior Gordy Scutt turned in the Huskies top performance. Scutt finished play at one-over par 215 to tie for 20th place overall. Freshman Joe Ramos, who was tied for 11th place enter the final 18 holes of play at five-under par, shot an 80 on Tuesday to place 34th in the tournament.

USC's Hunter Mahan won the tournament by posting a score of 204, 12 strokes below par. Arkansas' Craig Lile, who led after both the first and second rounds, shot 71 to place one stroke behind Mahan.

Washington returns to the links on Oct. 27 when it travels to Stanford for the three-day Nelson tournament at the Stanford Golf Course.
