STANFORD (2-2) at NOTRE DAME (2-2) - 1:30 EST/11:30 PDT - NBC - The Series: Stanford and Notre Dame have met 14 times with the Irish leading the series 9-5. In seven games at Notre Dame Stadium, ND leads 5-2 with two straight wins. The last Cardinal victory in South Bend came in 1992 (33-16). The first meeting between Stanford and Notre Dame came at the Rose Bowl. In one of the more fabled games in Rose Bowl history, the 1925 classic saw Knute Rockne and Notre Dame's 'Four Horsemen' defeat Pop Warner's Stanford team led by Ernie Nevers (27-10). . . . Last Year: Stanford and Notre Dame finished up the regular season at Palo Alto with the Irish, at 5-6, looking to avoid their first losing season since 1986. It was not to be as Rose Bowl-bound Stanford pulled out a 40-37 shootout that featured late heroics by both sides. With 1:32 to go in the game, Notre Dame scored a touchdown and added a two-point conversion to tie the game at 37-37. But Stanford calmly marched down the field and won it when PK Mike Biselli kicked his career-best fourth field goal of the game, the game-winner coming from 22 yards out as time expired. 'I've been dreaming about kicking the game winner against Notre Dame since I started kicking,' said Biselli. The game featured Stanford's aerial attack vs. Notre Dame's power running game as the Cardinal passed for 385 yards and the Irish rushed for 241. TB Tony Fisher was the workhorse for ND in rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns and adding a third TD on a pass reception.
