SERIES NOTES FOR THE GAMES OF SEP 9:

MIAMI (1-0) at WASHINGTON (1-0) - 12:30 PDT - ABC - The Series: Washington at Miami have met just once with the Huskies posting a 38-20 win at Miami in 1994. . . . Last Meeting: Washington paid a visit on No. 5-ranked Miami in 1994 and came away with a stunning 38-20 upset victory that snapped the Hurricanes' NCAA-record 58-game home winning streak. The Huskies trailed 14-3 at halftime, but exploded for 25 third-quarter points on the way to the win The UW defense forced four Miami turnovers and TB Napoleon Kaufman's hard-earned 80 yards rushing gave him the Husky career rushing record. . . . Notes: Directing the Washington offense in that 1994 upset win at Miami was QB Damon Huard, now a quarterback with the Miami Dolphins. . . . Washington and Miami shared the 1991 National Championship with the Huskies getting the nod in the final coaches' poll and the Canes finishing on top in the AP media poll.

OREGON (1-0) at WISCONSIN (1-0) - 2:30 CDT/12:30 PDT - ABC - The Series: Oregon Wisconsin have met just twice with the Badgers taking both contests. Wisconsin defeated Oregon 22-10 at Eugene in 1977 and 22-19 at Madison in 1978. . . . Last Meeting: Oregon and Wisconsin last met in 1978 at Madison with the Badgers scoring 22 fourth-quarter points to post a come-from-behind 22-19 victory.

SAN JOSE STATE (0-1) at STANFORD (1-0) - 2:00 PDT - The Series: Stanford-San Jose State is an old neighborhood rivalry that dates back to 1900. The teams have met 55 times with the Cardinal holding a decisive 42-12-1 advantage. However, San Jose State has won the game the last two years with the last Stanford victory coming in 1997 (28-12). Only once is the series history have the Spartans managed to win three in a row against Stanford (1981-82-83). All but two of the games in the series have been played at Stanford. . . . Last Year: Stanford and San Jose State hooked up in a shootout and the Spartans stunned the Cardinal at Stanford Stadium for the second straight year with a 44-39 victory. The teams combined for 681 yards passing and 961 yards total offense. Stanford WR Troy Walters caught 10 passes for 186 yards to become the Pac-10's all-time career receiving yardage leader.

UTAH (0-1) at CALIFORNIA (0-0) - 3:15 PDT - The Series: California and Utah have met just four times, most recently in 1964, with the Golden Bears leading the series by a 3-1 count. Three of the four games have been at Berkeley with Cal winning two of three, however the most recent meeting in 1964 was the Utes lone win in the series. . . . Last Meeting: California and Utah last met in 1964 at Berkeley with the Utes blanking the Bears 14-0. . . . Note: Utah opens its 2000 season with three straight Pac-10 opponents as Arizona and Washington State bookend Cal.

FRESNO STATE (0-1) at UCLA (1-0) - 4:30 PDT - The Series: UCLA and Fresno State have met five times with the Bruins winning all five matchups. All five of the games in the series have been UCLA home games. . . . Last Year: UCLA and Fresno State met at the Rose Bowl and the Bruins defeated the Bulldogs 35-21. Cory Paus made his first start at QB for UCLA, but was forced to leave the game with bruised ribs. WR Freddie Mitchell had nine receptions for 149 yards for the Bruins and MLB Robert Thomas, making his first career start, led UCLA with 14 tackles.

COLORADO (0-1) at USC (1-0) - 5:00 PDT - ABC - The Series: USC and Colorado have met just three times with the Trojans winning all three. USC blanked Colorado the last two times the teams have met (1963 and 1964) and the Trojans have outscored the Buffs 81-7 overall. Two of the previous three meetings have been played at Los Angeles. . . . Last Meeting: USC and Colorado last met in 1964 with the Trojans throwing a 21-0 shutout at Los Angeles. Headlining the Trojan backfield that year were current USC director of Athletics Mike Garrett at tailback and current Trojan TV analyst Craig Fertig at quarterback. . . . Coaching Note: The last time Colorado coach Gary Barnett saw USC was in the 1996 Rose Bowl Game when the Trojans downed Barnett's Northwestern squad 41-32.

OREGON STATE (1-0) at NEW MEXICO (0-2) - 6:00 MDT/5:00 PDT - The Series: Oregon State and New Mexico have met just once with the Lobos winning 35-16 at Albuquerque in 1979. . . . Last Meeting: Oregon State opened the 1979 season by dropping a 35-16 decision at New Mexico. . . . Coaching Note: New Mexico coach Rocky Long served as defensive coordinator at Oregon State for five years from 1991-95.

OHIO STATE (1-0) at ARIZONA (1-0) - 7:15 MST - FOX Sports Net - The Series: First visit to Tucson for Ohio State. Arizona and OSU have met three times, all at Columbus, with the Buckeyes holding a 2-1 series edge. UA won the first matchup in 1967 (14-7), OSU the next two in 1991 (38-14) and 1997 (26-20). . . . Last Meeting: Arizona and Ohio State met at Columbus in 1997 with the Buckeyes holding off a late Wildcat rally to prevail 28-20 in front of 91,152 at Ohio Stadium. Arizona spotted OSU a 28-0 lead through three quarters before QB Keith Smith sparked a fourth-quarter comeback by rushing for one TD and throwing for two more in an effort that just fell short. The Cats actually outgained the Buckeyes 380-292. The UA defense limited OSU to 70 yards rushing and forced three fumbles. . . . Coaching Note: Ohio State coach John Cooper was head coach at Arizona rival ASU for three years (1985-87) and went 0-2-1 vs. the Wildcats during his tenure with the Sun Devils.

OUT OF OUR LEAGUE: The Pac-10 has started off a perfect 7-0 against non-conference opponents, including upsets of two Top 25-ranked teams with UCLA beating No. 3 Alabama and USC knocking off No. 22 Penn State.
