UCLA has already kicked off the season splitting a pair of matches at the State Farm Women's Volleyball Classic, which including a win over defending national champion Penn State. The rest of the league gets underway this weekend with a plethora of tournaments. . . Poll watchers - Four Pac-10 teams are ranked among the nation's top ten in the preseason AVCA poll with No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 STANFORD, No. 7 USC and No. 10 ARIZONA.

PAC-10 NOTES

ARIZONA has won four straight season-openers. To make it five, they'll need to defeat No. 14 UC Santa Barbara. . . ARIZONA STATE senior outside hitter Amanda Burbridge needs two kills to reach 1,000 for her career. . . CALIFORNIA currently has the longest winning streak among Pac-10 teams. The Bears finished last season with three straight victories. . . OREGON looks to open the season with a victory of the fourth consecutive season. . . OREGON STATE will play its first 10 matches in the State of Oregon. That's three matches in its own tournament, three matches at the Portland State Tournament, two Pac-10 home matches and one Pac-10 match at Oregon State. . . STANFORD sophomore outside hitter Logan Tom was selected as a member of the U.S. Team and will participate in the Olympics. She plans to rejoin her teammates after returning from Sydney sometime in early October. . . UCLA junior middle blocker Angela Eckmier has suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee, and will be lost to the Bruins for the entire 2000 season. She plans to have surgery on the knee some time in September. Eckmier, who averaged 1.31 kills and 0.78 blocks per game as a reserve middle blocker in 1999. . . After their long trip to Florida for the State Farm Women's Volleyball Classic, the Bruins now travel in the opposite direction for a tournament in Hawaii. The Bruins will keep the luggage packed as they return across country the next week for a tournament in South Bend, Ind. That's nearly 15,000 miles of travel in two weeks. . . USC senior outside hitter Antoinette Polk needs 98 kills and 149 digs to become the 35th player in Pac-10 history to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. . . WASHINGTON will be on the road for its first eight match of the season, playing its first home match on Sept. 22. . . WASHINGTON STATE will will look to extend its win streak of season-opening victories to 10, when it faces Gonzaga in the opening match of the Cougar Challenge.
