For the first time in 10 seasons, Pac-10 co-champions were named as ARIZONA and STANFORD concluded the year tied atop the standings. . . Six teams visited the postseason, including Arizona which made its 16th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament - a Pac-10 record. With UCLA advancing to the Midwest Regional, the Pac-10 has had a team reach the Sweet 16 in 12 of the past 13 NCAA Tournaments. . . While Stanford reached No. 1 for first time in school history, Arizona, Oregon, UCLA and USC also appeared in the Top-25 during the season. . . The freshman class made a big impact on the league, especially Arizona's Jason Gardner, Stanford's Casey Jacobsen and UCLA's Jason Kapono. Each received national freshman player of the year recognition for their efforts this past season.

CONFERENCE HONORS NOTES. . . Eddie House is the first Arizona State player to earn Pac-10 Player of the Year. . . The three seniors on the squad are the fewest for the senior class since 1994 when only two were named All-Pac-10. . . For the first time ever, three freshmen were selected to the All-Pac-10 team. . . For just the second time in Pac-10 history, each member of the All-Freshman team averaged double figures in scoring - joining the 1986 Pac-10 All-Freshman team (Sean Elliott ARIZ, Bo Kimble USC, Todd Lichti STAN, Tom Lewis USC, Pooh Richardson, UCLA). . . It's the second time two freshmen were tabbed co-Freshman of the Year - 1986 (Elliott and Richardson). . . Montgomery's selection as the league's Coach of the Year marks the the third time in Pac-10 history that a coach has won the award in back-to-back seasons (Arizona's Lute Olson in 1988, `89 and 1993, `94).

PAC-10 NOTES

ARIZONA (27-7, 15-3/T1st) - This year's Pac-10 co-championship is the ninth time Arizona has won or tied for the league title. . . For the first time since 1987-88, the Cats had four players with 400 or more points in a season with SO F Michael Wright (526), FR G Gilbert Arenas (523), FR G Jason Gardner (427) and JR C Loren Woods (404). . . Wright became the seventh sophomore in UA history to score 500 or more points in a season. Arenas became the second freshman in UA history to score 500 or more points in a season. . . Woods set a UA record with 102 blocked shots during the season. His 14 blocked shots vs. Oregon tied an NCAA record. . . The University of Arizona honored coach Lute Olson in a postgame ceremony on Feb. 26, naming the McKale Center playing surface Lute Olson Court. The Cats have posted a home record of 234-26 (.900) under Olson. . . Olson has been tabbed as a finalist for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. . . Arizona has won 25 or more games in four of the last five seasons.

ARIZONA STATE (19-13, 10-8/T4th) - With 2,044 career points, SR G Eddie House became the 13th player in Pac-10 history to reach 2,000 points. House, ASU's all-time leading scorer, finished 11th on the Pac-10's all-time scoring list. House also established a Pac-10 career record with 1,794 field goal attempts. . . Not only did House lead the Sun Devils in scoring (23.0 ppg), but he also topped the club in assists (3.5 apg) and steals (2.3 spg), while ranking second in rebounds (5.5 rpg). . . SO F Awvee Storey grabbed 14 rebounds in game four times this season and has double digit figures on the boards in nine games. Storey averaged 8.5 rebounds per game in non-conference action. . . The Sun Devils were picked to finish eighth in a preseason poll of media, but posted 10 league wins for the first time since the 1995 season to finish in a fourth place tie with UCLA. . . The Sun Devils had three overtime road wins this season, one short of the NCAA record. . . ASU won at least 19 games in a season for the fourth time in the last 17 years.

CALIFORNIA (18-15, 7-11/7th) - F Sean Lampley will begin his senior season 17th on the Cal career scoring list with 1,171 points and 11th on the career rebound list with 665 rebounds. . . Cal set a school attendance record in its first season in Haas Pavilion with an average of 10,785 fans per game in the 12,172-seat facility. Every regular season crowd has been at least 10,000 strong and five games have been sellouts. . . SR G Robbie Jones scored a career-high 19 points in the Bears' First Round win over Long Beach State. . . With his long distance shooting outburst in the final game of the regular season at Arizona (6-8 3FG), SO F Ryan Forehan-Kelly finished at the top of the list for three-point percentage in Conference games (19-of-37, .514). . . The Bears' freshman class was quite productive this season, scoring 1,272 points (53.6 percent of team total), while pulling down 544 rebounds (46.3 percent of the team total). . . With another successful postseason run, the Bears have improved their postseason record under coach Ben Braun to 9-2.

OREGON (22-8, 13-5/3rd) - With 22 victories this season, the Ducks secured their first 20-win regular season since 1944-45. Oregon's 13 Conference wins are the most ever in league play. . . The Ducks were 5-3 against teams ranked in the Top-20 this season. . . The Ducks finished the regular season with four straight wins for the first time in 29 years. . . With 291 assists, SR G Darius Wright finished his career ranked sixth on the UO career list. . . SR F A.D. Smith finished his career ranked 11th on the Oregon career scoring list with 1,234 points. He finished seventh in career free throw percentage (.780, 277-355). . . SR G Alex Scales became the first Oregon player to earn All-Pac-10 honors since Kenya Wilkins (1997). In two seasons with the Ducks, Scales scored 947 points, averaging 15.3 points per game.

OREGON STATE (13-16, 5-13/T8th) - JR G Deaundra Tanner has placed himself 21st in career scoring at OSU with 1,094 points. . . JR G Josh Steinthal averaged 14.3 points per game over the last seven contests, after averaging 7.2 in the previous six games. Steinthal made 25 three-point field goals over the last six games in 46 attempts (.543). . . OSU used 12 different starting lineups this season. . . FR F Brian Jackson scored 299 points, seventh all-time by an OSU freshman. His 122 rebounds are fifth most by an OSU freshman. . . On March 24, Oregon State announced Ritchie McKay as the new men's basketball coach. McKay spent the last two years at Colorado State and has a 61-52 career record in four years as a head coach (including two years at Portland State).

STANFORD (27-4, 15-3/T1st) - SR F Mark Madsen finished his career with 1,176 points (22nd on Stanford's career list) and 861 career rebounds (fifth on the Cardinal career list). . . Stanford's rebound average of 42.2 rebounds per game was the highest average since the 1973-74 team averaged 43.6 rebounds per game. . . With a defensive field goal percentage of .352, the Cardinal set an NCAA record. The old record was .358 set by Marquette in 1994. . . With 163 blocked shots this season, the Cardinal shattered their school record of 117 set in 1997. . . FR F Casey Jacobsen has tallied 449 points this season, second most by a Stanford freshman (Todd Lichti - 516 points in 1986). . . It's the sixth consecutive 20-win season for the Cardinal, third straight 26-win season.

UCLA (21-11, 10-8/T4th) - The Bruins are riding an eight-game winning streak, their longest since UCLA ended the 1997 season with a 12-game win streak before losing to Minnesota in the NCAA Regional Final. . . JR G Earl Watson has been UCLA's iron man, having started all 96 games for the last two+ seasons for the Bruins. . . SO F JaRon Rush is averaging 13.8 points over the last five games, shooting 61.4 percent (27-of-44) and averaging 6.2 rebounds. . . FR F Jason Kapono has established a Pac-10 freshman record with 81 three-pointers this season. Kapono has scored in double figures in 29 games this season.

USC (16-14/9-9/6th) - SO F David Bluthenthal has converted 33 consecutive free throws. The USC record is 37, set by John Block during a three-game span during the 1966 season. . . SO G Brandon Granville has record 10 or more assists in a game 13 times this season. His 388 career assists rank fourth all-time at USC. His 248 assists this season tops the USC single-season chart and are third on the Pac-10 single-season list. . . JR G Jeff Trepagnier has a USC single-season record 94 steals this season. His 178 career thefts rank third all-time at USC. . . JR F Brian Scalabrine is the first Trojan to earn All-Pac-10 honors since Stais Boseman in 1997. After converting on just one of six three-point attempts last season, Scalabrine found the range this season as he connected on 25-of-62 (.403) three-point attempts.

WASHINGTON (10-20, 5-13/T8th) - SR G Deon Luton finished his Washington career with 1,488 career points, placing him eighth on the UW career scoring list. He also owns the school record for three-point field goals in a game (7), season (75) and career (212). . . SO G Senque Carey finished the year with 137 assists, third most in a season by a Husky. It's the most by a Washington player since Chester Dorsey tallied 163 assists during the 1976 season. With 231 career assists, Carey is just six assists away from cracking the UW career top 10 list. . . The Huskies will return to campus next season for their home games as the renovation of Hec Edmundson Pavilion should be completed.

WASHINGTON STATE (6-22, 1-17/10th) - SR F Chris Crosby finished his career ranked eighth in WSU career scoring at 1,333 career points. He also passed 200 career three-pointers in the season finale at USC, finishing with 202 -- just the fourth Cougar to pass 200 career three-pointers. Crosby had 22 points against USC, giving him 22 double-figure scoring games this season. Crosby also ranks among WSU's top 10 in career three-point percentage (.391/8th) and free throw percentage (.782/7th). . . SO G Mike Bush scored in double figures in nine of the last 11 games. Bush has 101 steals in 57 career games, nearly halfway to the school record of 204 by Don Collins (1977-80). . . Even though his season came to a premature ending due to a knee injury, SR G Jan-Michael Thomas broke the 36-year-old WSU career mark for free throw percentage. His two-year average of .829 (121-146) just edged Byron Vadset's .825 average (255-309), set 1962-64.

FRESH CHOICE. . . While the Pac-10 coaches selected Stanford's Casey Jacobsen and UCLA's Jason Kapono as the league's co-Freshman of the Year, National Freshman of the Year honors went to Arizona's Jason Gardner (USBWA, Basketball Times, ESPN.com, Dick Vitale), Jacobsen (The Sporting News) and Kapono (CBS SportsLine.com). . . Pac-10 freshmen made quite an impact on play around the league this season - Arizona started three freshmen in each of the last 15 games. Arizona State had a least one freshman in its starting lineup for each game this season, while California regularly started four freshmen. Oregon State, Stanford and UCLA each started one freshman. The freshman class scored 25 percent of the combined point total of all 10 league teams. . . Ten different Pac-10 freshmen scored at least 200 points this season. . . Four freshmen were among the top-20 in the league in scoring, three among the top-20 in rebounds, three among the top-10 in assists, three among the top-10 in three-point field goal percentage.
