Oct. 11, 2000

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Pacific-10 women's basketball coaches predicted a second-place finish for the University of Oregon, in a poll released Wednesday.

Stanford was a near-unanimous choice, garnering nine first-place votes for a total of 90 points. The Ducks received the only other first-place vote and ended up with 78 points.

Oregon won its second straight Pac-10 championship last season after going 14-4 in the conference. The Ducks, who return 10 letterwinners and three starters, finished 23-8 a year ago after losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Ducks, who begin practice Saturday, also were picked second last year in the coaches poll.
