Oct. 11, 2000

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Stanford senior Scotty Scott (Belvedere, CA/Pinewood HS) advanced to the singles main draw of the ITA All-American Championships with a straight set win over California's Robert Kowalczyk on Wednesday morning in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Scott, who was seeded 10th in the qualifying draw and is ranked 79th in the nation, defeated Kowalczyk 6-4, 7-5 - his second straight set win in as many days - to qualify for the 64-player main draw along with Cardinal teammates K.J. Hippensteel (Roanoke, VA/International Academy) and David Martin (Key Biscayne, FL/Boca Raton Prep). Hippensteel is the defending singles champion in the event after winning six consecutive matches last year in Austin, Texas.

In doubles qualifying, Scott and senior Ali Ansari (Houston, TX/Second Baptist HS) fell one win short of the main draw after falling to fifth-seeded and 46th-ranked Georges Matijasevic and Tiago Ruffoni of Auburn 9-8 (3). The loss leaves Hippensteel and Martin will be the Cardinal's lone entry in the doubles draw, though Ansari and Scott are the first doubles alternates.Singles and doubles main draw competition begins on Thursday in Stone Mountain, and concludes with both finals on Sunday.
