Victories by Washington and UCLA helped put half of the Pac-12 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. The six teams in the AP rankings are a season-high for the Pac-12 and also makes the Pac tied with the SEC for most teams in the top 25 by conference.

No. 2 Oregon passed its first road test with flying colors by defeating Washington State 51-26 in the Cougars’ annual Seattle game and held on to its previous ranking in the process. Washington State kept it close for a half, but the Ducks exploded for three touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game on ice. Kenjon Barner narrowly missed out on his second 200-yard rushing game of the season, pounding out 195 on the ground on nearly ten yards per carry while reaching paydirt four times (once through the air).

Nothing changed for the Trojans. USC didn’t play and remained at No. 13 in the new AP poll. Lane Kiffin’s boys will play their third game away from the Coliseum this year when they travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Utes Thursday night.

The question entering the weekend was whether or not the Beavers could win a game without an extra week to prepare. The answer was a resounding yes thanks to a late fourth quarter touchdown drive that gave Oregon State a thrilling 38-35 victory over host Arizona. Oregon State is now 3-0 and jumped four spots to No. 14 in the new poll. With the win last night, Mike Riley became the winningest football coach in Oregon State history.

The Stanford Cardinal dropped ten spots to No. 18 after a Thursday night loss to the Washington Huskies. It was the first time in nearly five years that Stanford had failed to score an offensive touchdown (a Trent Murphy pick-six resulted in the only Cardinal trip to the end zone against the Huskies).

The Cardinal’s loss was the Huskies’ gain in more than just the win column; No. 23 Washington earned its first ranking of the season with the upset. A bit of role reversal for Sark’s squad: The Huskies had been knocked out of the top 25 the last two times they were ranked by losing to Stanford. However, the celebration will be short-lived as a trip to Eugene looms large next weekend.

UCLA took care of business on the road with a 42-14 defeat of host Colorado and slipped back in at No. 25 as a result. Redshirt frosh QB Brett Hundley had another efficient performance, throwing two touchdown passes and no interceptions (he also ran for two more), and running back Johnathan Franklin eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground for the fourth time this season.

Including Arizona, there have now been seven different Pac-12 teams ranked at one point or another throughout the young season, tied with the Big 12 for second behind the SEC’s eight.
