Stanford comes up an inch short in OT vs. Notre Dame

In a battle of two of the nation's premier defenses, No. 17 Stanford fell just short against No. 7 Notre Dame 20-13 in overtime on a dreary night in South Bend.

The front sevens of the Cardinal and Fighting Irish controlled the game, allowing just one offensive touchdown in regulation combined and neither side yielding four yards per carry on the ground.

After a 22-yard field goal by Notre Dame's Kyle Brindza sent the game to OT, the Irish scored on their first overtime possession thanks to a great catch by T.J. Jones on a pass thrown behind him in the end zone.

Stanford then got inside the Irish 5, but Notre Dame stopped Stepfan Taylor twice on the goal line to close out the game, the last one confirmed by instant replay.

Here's the 4th down stop, with a million replays attached. Did Taylor get in?

Stanford is now 1-1 in overtime games this season. Sixty minutes couldn't decide Stanford's 54-48 victory over Arizona last weekend.
