Arizona State finding old reliables in "newness"

Arizona State head coach Charli Turner Thorne was quick to coin "newness" as a buzz phrase for this year's Sun Devil squad. With her returning from her one-year sabbatical, two new assistant coaches and a bevy of new faces on the roster, it's easy to see why Turner Thorne repeated that word during the day.

That said, don't expect any philosophy changes from Charli Turner Thorne. "What you can expect from us is Arizona State women’s basketball. We’re going to come at you 1 through 5," she said. "We're looking to press, pressure and run," referring to the team's vaunted smothering defense that tires countless opponents.

One such player who will help that mission in 2012-13 is Janae Fulcher, Arizona State's post player who will be called upon to replace the production of Kali Bennett and Kimberly Brandon, both of whom graduated.

"Establishing a post presence is going to be huge [for me] because Kali had such a huge presence in the paint as the team's leading shot blocker," Fulcher said. "As far as replacing Kimberly, it's her scoring."
