Washington State's Brock Motum might be the best player the casual college hoops fan doesn't know. Despite not garnering a lot of national notoriety, Motum led the Pac-12 in scoring last year and has made huge strides in each of his first three seasons on campus.

He is also a native of Brisbane, Australia, making the Cougars' summer tour of Australia all the more special for him as he was able to catch up with family and friends.

"For me, personally, it was a lot of fun to have my American teammates come home to my country, and a lot of the games that we played over there were in front of my friends and family," Motum said.

Motum is one of three Cougars who are Australian natives along with Dexter Kernich-Drew and James Hunter, so head coach Ken Bone was glad that the other guys on the team had an opportunity to better understand the backgrounds of their Australian teammates.

"It gave our guys a chance to get a perspective of where Brock and James and Dexter are from and appreciate Australia because none of the guys in our program had ever visited that country," Bone said at Thursday's media day at Pac-12 Networks headquarters in San Francisco.

Just as important, there was the actual basketball aspect of the trip, which often pitted Washington State against grown men 10 years the Cougars' senior.

"I think that really helped our team and our coaching staff see where we are as a group when we're competing against bigger and strong guys," Bone said. "We don't always get that in practice and it's hard to simulate it unless you go against somebody different."
