Incoming UCLA freshman Alison Lee won her quarterfinal match Friday at the 113th U.S. Women’s Amateur at the Country Club of Charleston.
Lee, 17, a veteran of the USGA championship circuit, won 4 & 3 against Katelyn Sepmoree of Tyler, TX, in a match that wasn’t close.
Lee birdied the first two holes and was on her way to victory. She built a three-up lead through nine holes and increased it to five holes after a birdie at the 13th. She lost the 14th hole, but halved the 15th to win without playing the last three holes.
The Valencia, CA native will meet Emma Talley, a sophomore at the University of Alabama, in one semifinal match on Saturday. USC’s Doris Chen meets Yueer Cindy Feng of Orlando, FL in the other semifinal.
Sunday’s final will be 36 holes.
