2013-14 Oregon State Men’s Golf Schedule

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men’s golf team will open its 2013-14 season at the Kikkor Husky Invitational in Bremerton, Wash., on Monday, Sept. 16 to begin a 12-tournament schedule with the goal of making an eight consecutive trip to postseason competition.
The Beavers will compete in four tournaments in the fall and seven spring events leading up to the Pac-12 Championship, which will be held Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27 at the Gallery Golf Club in Marana, Ariz.
"We've scheduled what I believe will be another very strong schedule,” Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. “Our goal is always to schedule very strong but also provide our guys the opportunity to travel to some new places and see different teams. I think we've done this as we will take the team to play two future U.S. Open venues in Chambers Bay and Erin Hills, along with a trip in the spring to Ohio State."
After opening the season in Washington, the Beavers will compete at the Mark Simpson Invitational in Erie, Colo. (a tournament they won last season), the Erin Hills Invitational in Erin, Wis. (at Erin Hills Golf Course) and the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif.
The spring season begins in late January at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz., with familiar stops at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai’i, the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Springs, Calif., and the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene.
Other spring events include the San Diego Intercollegiate in San Diego, Calif., the Redhawk Invitational in Tacoma, Wash. (at Chambers Bay Golf Course) and the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio.
Oregon State has become a regular at the NCAA Regionals with seven consecutive appearances, including trips in 15 of the past 21 years. The Beavers have advanced to the NCAA Championships three times since 1993 with the last coming in 2010 when they finished in 16th place.
This past season the Beavers fell one shot short of finishing in the top five at the Tallahassee Regional and punching the automatic ticket to the NCAA Championships.
"In order for us to be ready to take the next step and advance to the National Championship, I believe we need to compete against the best and feel like we can compete with anyone when we show up at Regionals,” Reehoorn said. “This schedule will help achieve this and give the team good opportunities to find ourselves in the last group competing for team wins.”
The 2013-14 roster features talent and experience with senior David Fink, who led the team with a scoring average of 71.47 last season, the fourth lowest in school history, along with redshirt sophomore Brian Jung and junior Scott Kim.
The team, however, lost veterans Nick Chianello, Matt Rawitzer and Nick Sherwood to graduation -- three players who combined to play 114 of a possible 120 rounds last season -- so Reehoorn will have to rely on sophomores and freshmen this season.
Tyler Carlson and Chris Tedesco saw action in their freshman campaigns last season, albeit limited, so they will be counted on more, as will junior transfer Alex Franklin and incoming freshmen Kevin Chen, Conner Kumpula and Kevin Murphy.
“I anticipate our newcomers to make a significant contribution in our success this season,” Reehoorn said. “In order for us to make it to the NCAA's they need to feel comfortable competing against the best, and this schedule will give them plenty of opportunities to do so before the end of the season.”
