The UCLA women’s golf program will begin the 2013-14 season ranked fourth in the preseason coaches poll, the Women’s Golf Coaches Assn. announced this week.
The Bruins are just one of nine teams to be ranked in every coaches poll since the it began 12 years ago. This year, the Bruins received one first place vote and 637 points. USC, Alabama and Duke are ranked one through three, respectively.
In 2012-13, WGCA Hall of Fame Coach Carrie Forsyth returns three letterwinners from last year’s squad that placed fourth nationally, won two tournaments outright and tied for first in another. Highlighting the list of returnees is two-time consensus first-team All-America Erynne Lee, who led the Bruins in every statistical category and won one collegiate title and another amateur championship as a sophomore. Also returning are senior Ani Gulugian, a three-year letterwinner, and sophomore Louise Riddertrom, who made 12 starts as a true freshman.
Forsyth is bringing in two players who are expected to make a major impact on the program: Five-time AJGA All-American Alison Lee of Valencia, CA and 2012 Curtis Cup team member Bronte Law of Stockport, England. Both players competed in the Junior Solheim Cup earlier this month at Inverness GC. Also enrolling will be Yvonne Zheng, a native of China, who attended high school in Florida.
Finally, GolfWorld announced its list of the Top 50 Female College Players to Watch and both Erynne Lee and Alison Lee were among the Top 10.
