CORVALLIS, Ore. – The first-ever meeting with Maryland, a Christmas tournament in Hawaii and 16 home games highlights the 2013-14 Oregon State men’s basketball schedule, as announced by head coach Craig Robinson on Tuesday.
The schedule features eight games on the ESPN family of networks, five on Fox Sports 1 and 16 on the Pac-12 Networks. The contest at DePaul on Dec. 1 is expected to be televised and will be announced at a later date. It will mark the second straight season every Beavers’ game is televised.
Oregon State will open their schedule against Coppin State on Sunday, Nov. 10 at Gill Coliseum and host the Arizona schools on the final regular-season weekend. Other non-conference home games include: Portland (Wednesday, Nov. 13), Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (Tuesday, Nov. 26), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Saturday, Dec. 7), Maryland Eastern Shore (Sunday, Dec. 15), Towson (Wednesday, Dec. 18) and Quinnipiac (Sunday, Dec. 29).
The Beavers will play DePaul for the first time since 1945 (59-40 loss in Chicago) on Sunday, Dec. 1 in Chicago, Ill., and face Maryland for the first time ever on Sunday, Nov. 17 in College Park, Md.
Oregon State will open the eight-team Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic against Akron on Sunday, Dec. 22 in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPNU. The Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic will feature 12 games over the three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship game on Christmas Day.
Other teams in the tournament include Boise State, George Mason, Hawai’i, Iowa State, Saint Mary’s and South Carolina. Six of the teams the Beavers could face in the Diamond Head Classic advanced to postseason play last year.
The Pac-12 slate begins with a trip to the mountain schools with the first stop in Boulder, Colo., on Thursday, Jan. 2, followed by Utah on Saturday, Jan. 4 in Salt Lake City. The Beavers will play on Super Bowl Sunday for the second straight year when they host UCLA on Feb. 2.
The Civil War Series presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Wells Fargo Bank and Your Local Ford Stores will be played on Sunday, Jan. 19 in Corvallis and Sunday, Feb. 16 in Eugene.
Oregon State will not travel to the Bay Area this season, while Colorado and Utah won’t make the trip to Corvallis. The Beavers will play two Pac-12 games on a Wednesday and four on a Sunday. The other conference games will be held on the traditional Thursday and Saturday days.
The Pac-12 Tournament will be held in Las Vegas, Nev., for the second consecutive year, beginning on Wednesday, March 12 with all games being played at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and televised by the Pac-12 Networks and Fox Sports 1.
The Beavers will host an exhibition game in early November, which will be announced at a later date.
