EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men’s basketball team will play 19 games against teams that advanced to the postseason a year ago as head coach Dana Altman unveiled a challenging slate for the 2013-14 season.
The Ducks will play four non-conference games against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams – Georgetown, Illinois, Mississippi and Pacific – plus another six versus Pac-12 opponents Arizona, California, Colorado and UCLA.
The home schedule also features NIT final four team Brigham Young, as well as College Invitational Tournament participants Cal Poly, North Dakota and UC Irvine.
The Ducks will face an additional five games against 2013 NIT teams Arizona State, Stanford and Washington in league play.
Oregon has a pair of exhibitions, Oct. 27 versus Northwest Christian, which is coached by former Duck superstar Luke Jackson, and Nov. 2.
Oregon opens the regular season in the Armed Forces Classic in South Korea where the Ducks will meet Georgetown on the U.S. Army base Camp Humphreys.
The first regular season game at Matthew Knight Arena will be Nov. 13 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, with single contests against Utah Valley (Nov. 19) and San Francisco (Nov. 24) leading up to a big preseason tournament at MKA the last weekend in November.
All four teams in the Global Sports Hardwood Challenge – Cal Poly, North Dakota, Oregon and Pacific – were postseason teams last year, with the Ducks and Tigers advancing to the NCAA Tournament, and Cal Poly and North Dakota playing in the CIT.
The Global Sports Challenge runs Nov. 29-Dec. 1, with the pairings yet to be determined.
A challenging month of December finds Oregon playing at Mississippi for the first time ever on Dec. 8, followed by a trip to the Moda Center, formerly the Rose Garden, in Portland to meet Illinois. Both of those teams were in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, with the Rebels advancing to the third round.
Then it’s back home for another CIT team in UC Irvine Dec. 17 at MKA, followed by NIT Final Four participant Brigham Young Dec. 17. The Ducks close out the non-conference slate hosting Morgan State on Dec. 29. Oregon opens conference play with its longest road trip, Jan. 2 at Utah and Jan. 5 at Colorado.
Also in January, the Ducks host Cal (Jan. 9) and Stanford (Jan. 12), preceding a three-game swing at Northwest rivals Oregon State (Jan. 19), Washington (Jan. 23) and Washington State (Jan. 26).
The Ducks are at home for much of the month of February, with UCLA visiting on Jan. 30, USC on Feb. 1, Oregon State on Feb. 16, Washington on Feb. 19 and Washington State on Feb. 23. The only road trip early in the month is a desert swing to Arizona (Feb. 6) and Arizona State (Feb. 8).
The regular season wraps up with games at UCLA (Feb. 27) and USC (March 1), before closing out at home March 4 versus Arizona State and March 8 against Arizona.
The Pac-12 Tournament returns to Las Vegas March 12-15.
The Ducks are coming off one of their best seasons in school history, advancing to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Oregon finished 28-9 and won the Pac-12 Conference Tournament before winning two games in the NCAA Tournament. The 28 wins were the fourth most in school history and the most by an Oregon team since 2006-07.
