Men’s Golf Set to Open Season at Home

THIS WEEK:  The Washington State University men’s golf team will host the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate at Washington State’s Palouse Ridge Golf Club Sept. 9-10 to begin its 2013-14 season.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY:  This year marks the tournament’s fifth occurrence in Pullman, but just the second year that Itani Quality Homes has sponsored…Washington State regained the tournament title in 2012, having previously relinquished the title to San Jose State in 2011…Cougars have won the tournament three times in the tournament’s four-year existence…in 2009, Kevin Tucker tied for individual honors…in 2010, Trent Sanders and Nick Ellis placed fourth and fifth, respectively…Hank Frame placed in the top 25 in each of the tournament’s four running seasons, capturing the tournament title as a senior in 2012…Cougars also set a school record for 54-holes in 2010 with an 827 (-37)…WSU's third-round score of 278 (-10) in 2012 is the best third round mark in tournament history.
THE COURSE:  The 7,308-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Club will play at par-70 both days…Monday, teams will play 36 holes with the first round beginning at 7:30 a.m…tournament concludes Tuesday with 18 holes beginning at 7:30 a.m.
THE FIELD: Joining host school Washington State in the 12-school tournament will be Boise State, British Columbia, Cal State Fullerton, Chico State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle, and Utah Valley.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE:  Competing for the Cougar men will be junior Michael Anderson, sophomore Ryan Books, senior Jarrett Foote, senior Kent Hagen, redshirt junior Sang Lee, freshman Nick Mandell, junior Charlie Mroz, senior Blake Snyder, sophomore Bhurinat Sonpaiboon, freshman Blake Toolan, and redshirt junior Alex Wagner.
COACH CLEGG:  Washington State is led by head coach Garrett Clegg, who is in his third season as the mentor for the Cougars…a native of Bountiful, Utah, Clegg was an assistant coach at Washington for four seasons prior to his arrival at WSU.
RESULTS:  Live results will be available during tournament play at golfstat.com. Tournament results will be posted at wsucougars.com at the end of each day and at the conclusion of competition.
WSU GOLF CLINIC:  The WSU men’s golf team will host a free golf clinic Saturday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m…event will take place at the driving range of Washington State’s Palouse Ridge Golf Club…men’s golf team along with head coach Garrett Clegg and WSU Women’s Golf Head Coach Kelli Kamimura will be in attendance.
