CORVALLIS, Ore. – With recent stops in Japan and New Mexico, the Oregon State women’s golf team will have a much easier trip when they travel up I-5 to compete at the 4th Annual Rose City Collegiate Monday and Tuesday in Aurora, Ore.
FIELD (15): Oregon State, Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Montana, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Seattle, UC Irvine, Washington State and Weber State.
COURSE: The tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,080-yard Langdon Farms Golf Club.
BEAVERS’ LINEUP: Oregon State will go with a lineup of seniors Lauren Sewell and Seshia Telles, junior Anica Yoo and sophomores Ashlee Pickerell and Chelsea Saelee, the same group that played the previous two tournaments. Senior Melissa Gibbons and freshman Krissy Peterson will compete as individuals.
FORMAT: Two-day, 54-hole tournament with 36 holes of continuous play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The top-four individuals from each five-member team with the lowest scores for each 18-hole round constitute the scoring members for that given round.
TEE TIMES: Monday’s round will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and Tuesday’s final round will begin at 8 a.m. with tee times off the first and 10th holes.
LAST TIME OUT: The Beavers shot a 33-over 299-306-304--909 at the par-73, 6,192-yard Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico to tie for ninth place at the 16-team Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
Yoo led the Beavers on the individual leaderboard with a tie for 18th place after posting a 4-over 79-70-74--223, while Sewell finished in a tie for 31st with a 7-over 74-78-74--226. Saelee shot 12-over 73-79-79--231 for a tie for 42nd, Telles finished in a tie for 51st with a 14-over 75-79-79--233 and Pickerell was a stroke back with a 15-over 77-80-77--234 for a tie for 56th. Freshman Krissy Peterson competed as an individual and concluded her first college tournament in a tie for 73rd with a 23-over 81-78-83--242.
LAST YEAR AT THE ROSE CITY COLLEGIATE: Oregon State finished the two-day, 54-hole event with a 52-over 311-296-309--916 to finish in second place, while Cal State Fullerton was four strokes better with a 48-over 304-305-303--912.
Sewell shot a 6-over 78 in the final round after throwing scores of 75 and 72 on her opening day scorecard to finish the tournament with a 9-over 225 and tied for sixth place overall. Telles also shot a 6-over 78 on the final day and just missed a top-10 finish with a tie for 12th with a 13-over 81-70-78--229. Yoo shot the Beavers’ best final round to finish a stroke back of Telles with a 14-over 78-77-75--230, while Saelee was tied for 22nd with a 17-over 77-77-79--233 and Rachael Fischer wrapped up play with a 20-over 81-77-78--236 for a tie for 29th.
At the inaugural Rose City Collegiate in 2010, Oregon State finished second behind North Texas and Whitney French played in what is believed to be the longest playoff in women’s college golf history, a 12-hole thriller that was eventually won by Kelsey Kipp of North Texas.
The Beavers didn’t compete at the 2011 Rose City Collegiate.
