AURORA, Ore. – It was a huge day for the Oregon State women’s golf team at the 4th Annual Rose City Collegiate on Tuesday, which included a team title, an individual win and an ace.
The Beavers won the 15-team event, which was shortened to 36 holes due to weather, by a whopping 14 strokes after posting a 10-over 293-293--586 at the par-72, 6,080-yard Langdon Farms Golf Club. It was the first team title for Oregon State in five years after claiming the Giustina Memorial Classic on its home course back in September 2008.
Not only did the team win the title, but junior Anica Yoo won medalist honors with a 2-under 69-73--142, becoming the first Oregon State golfer to win an outright individual crown in 16 years after Anjeanette Dabbs won the Pepperdine Invitational in November 1997.
Not only did Oregon State win the team title and Yoo take medalist honors, but senior Seshia Telles got a hole-in-one on the par-3 third hole, her first in collegiate competition.
Yes, it was that kind of day for the Beavers.
“I’m very proud of the team and Anica,” Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. “Anica had a great finish with two birdies in her last four holes. Chelsea, Ashlee, Lauren and Seshia also had solid rounds today in tough conditions. I am excited to have them play well and win. They were on the verge last week with some great play for much of the event. I believe that strong play gives them the experience and confidence to go out and play with focus all the time.”
“Today went really well both as a team and individually for myself,” Yoo said. “To start off the second round I went par-birdie-birdie. I felt like I was on a great streak with the first three holes and then after that that's when I got a bogey, which shook me up a little bit. Right when I thought I was getting myself back together I made a double on a par-3, which brought me down mentally.
“After that I knew I needed coach Rise's help. She then walked with me for the last five holes, which really helped me get my head back in the game. My confidence level went back up from there because I knew that I was competing with Luciane, a player from UC Irvine. I was happy that I won first place overall, but I was more happy we won as a team. I think this is going to boost our team's confidence as we prepare for our last two tournaments left for our fall season.”
Oregon State won by 14 strokes over Gonzaga and UC Irvine, which tied for second with a 24-over 600, and Yoo held off a late charge by Luciane Lee of UC Irvine, who was the only other player in the 84-person field to finish in red numbers with a 1-under 71-72--143.

Whitney French tied for the individual lead at this event in 2010 but lost on the 12th hole of sudden-death playoff to Kelsey Kipp of North Texas.
Sophomore Chelsea Saelee recorded a career-best finish with a tie for third place after posting a 2-over 75-71--146. The 1-under 71 in Tuesday’s final round is the first sub-par round of her young career.
The ace by Telles helped her shoot a 1-over 73 and move up the leaderboard into sole eighth with a 4-over 75-73--148, while sophomore Ashlee Pickerell also posted a career-best finish with a tie for 10th with a 6-over 74-76--150. Senior Lauren Sewell was only a stroke back with a 7-over 75-76--152 that put her in a tie for 14th.
Competing as individuals, freshman Krissy Peterson shot a 21-over 85-80--165 for a tie for 69th and senior Melissa Gibbons finished in a tie for 72nd with a 23-over 86-81--167.
The Beavers will play their penultimate tournament of the fall season when they tee it up at the Stanford Intercollegiate Friday, Oct. 25 to Sunday, Oct. 27 in Stanford, Calif. The final event will be Monday, Nov. 4 and Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Pac-12 Preview in Kona, Hawai’i.
