What just happened?

Stanford won a share of the Pac-12 North and will play in the Football Championship Game December 7, location still TBD, by virtue of its head-to-head win vs. Oregon. That's what happened. Oregon's loss to Arizona combined with Stanford's win over Cal in the Big Game renders next weekend's action moot so far as the North representative is concerned; the Cardinal go.

Could Stanford host the game? Yes, if either Arizona State or UCLA win the South at 7-2 (Stanford has head-to-head wins vs. both).

What about the South?

Still TBD. Here's a team-by-team explanation of each of the remaining Pac-12 South contenders' paths to the championship game and hosting scenarios, courtesy of the Pac-12 Conference:

ARIZONA STATE wins the Pac-12 South and goes to the FCG if the Sun Devils:

  • Beat UCLA tonight, or
  • Lose to UCLA and beat Arizona next Saturday, and USC beats UCLA also next Saturday.

ARIZONA STATE hosts if:

  • The Sun Devils win out.

UCLA wins the South if the Bruins:

  • Win their final two Conference games, or
  • Beat ASU tonight, lose to USC next Saturday, and Colorado defeats USC tonight and Arizona defeats ASU next Saturday.

USC wins the South if the Trojans:

  • Win their final two Conference games, and Arizona State loses its final two Conference games.

USC hosts if they:

  • Win out, and ASU loses its final two Conference games (the Trojans beat Stanford remember).

Developing sitch. Stay tuned.
