Pac-12 Networks heads back to the archives for return of 'Varsity Days,' presented by Mitsubishi

Season two of 12-part series unearthing classic Conference football highlights from yesteryear premieres Sunday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. PT

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (July 31, 2014) – Before the start of the 2014 college football season, Pac-12 Networks is taking fans back to the Conference’s golden age on the gridiron with season two of Varsity Days, Presented by Mitsubishi, premiering Sunday, August 3 with three, 30-minute episodes starting at 7:00 p.m. PT.

The shows, hosted by Rick Neuheisel, celebrate the players, voices and moments that defined college football in the Conference’s early days from the late 1940s to mid-1980s. These narrated programs, originally produced on 16mm film for local television or season-ending banquets, have been restored by the Pac-12 Networks archive team with animated graphics and factoids for today’s viewer.

Season two of Varsity Days will feature season reviews and game highlights, from the days of the Pacific Coast Conference to Arizona State’s historic 1986 season. Fans will be taken back to the days where prior to Ted Robinson, Gus Johnson and Brad Nessler calling the plays of Brett Hundley, Jordan Richards and Austin Hill, legendary voices like Keith Jackson and Dick Enberg brought the performances of Bob Schloredt, Marcus Allen and Ronnie Lott to life.

More details surrounding each episode can be found below. Varsity Days is just one of several shows airing exclusively this fall on Pac-12 Networks that will give viewers more classic, memorable moments of their favorite teams and players.

Varsity Days, season 2 episode details

Episode 1: 1952 Pacific Coast Conference Season Review

Debuts: Sunday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. PT; all Networks

Summary: A school-by-school recap of the 1952 season starting with Idaho and ending with PCC Champion USC. Includes highlights featuring Stanford HB and two-time Olympic Gold medalist Bob Mathias. Narrated by Jack Shaw.

Episode 2: 1953 Pacific Coast Conference Players of the Week

Debuts: Sunday, August 3 at 7:30 p.m. PT; all Networks

Summary: A look back at the players of the week from the 1953 PCC season. Narrated by Tom Harmon.

Episode 3: History of the Rose Bowl – Blood, Sweat and Cheers

Debuts: Sunday, August 3 at 8:00 p.m. PT; all Networks

Summary: A look back at the history of the Rose Bowl game, from its humble beginnings to becoming ‘The Grandaddy of Them All.’ Narrated by Robert Conrad.

Episode 4: 1953 Rose Bowl – No. 5 USC vs. No. 11 Wisconsin

Debuts: Monday, August 4 at 9:00 p.m. PT; all Networks

Summary: A look back at the 1953 Rose Bowl Game between No. 5 USC and No. 11 Wisconsin. Highlights feature notable players including USC quarterbacks Jim Sears and Rudy Bukich and Wisconsin RB Alan Ameche.  

Episode 5: 1980 Rose Bowl – No. 3 USC vs. No. 1 Ohio State

Debuts: Monday, August 4 at 9:30 p.m. PT; all Networks

Summary: A recap of the 1980 Rose Bowl Game between top-ranked Ohio State and No. 3 USC featuring USC running backs Charles White and Marcus Allen, USC S Ronnie Lott and Ohio State QB Art Schlichter. Narrated by Dick Enberg.

Episode 6: 1982 Arizona State season review

Debuts: Wednesday, August 6 at 9:00 p.m. PT; Pac-12 Networks, Pac-12 Arizona, Pac-12 Los Angeles, Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Mountain
