Kelsey Plum drops 57 points on senior day to become NCAA all-time leading scorer
Kelsey Plum woke up Saturday morning in pursuit of NCAA history. The Washington senior sat second on the NCAA's all-time women's basketball scoring list, 54 points behind leader Jackie Stiles.
By the time Plum's head hit her pillow on Saturday night she was the all-time leader.
In her final home regular season game at Alaska Airlines Arena, Plum scored 57 points -- a new Pac-12 single-game record -- and surpassed Stiles. She was among four seniors honored following the game in an emotional Senior Night ceremony as 7,000 Husky fans stood and cheered.
"My family being here, it's senior night ... I just felt like going out on a bang" Plum told Pac-12 Networks following the game. "I don't know what else to say. I'm just smiling."
With four minutes left to play in the fourth quarter, the lefty from Poway, Calif. drove into the lane and made an off-balanced shot to surpass Stiles. The crowd which had been tracking her pursuit of the record erupted in cheers.
HERE IT IS. IT IS BEAUTIFUL. IT IS PERFECT.
