The top three American men's and women's finishers at the 121st Boston Marathon had distinct West Coast appeals to them.

Pac-12 alums swept the top three finishers amongst Americans in both the men's and women's races Monday at the hallowed annual road race.

In the men's race, Oregon's Galen Rupp finished 2nd overall and as the top American, finishing the 26.2-mile course through Boston and its suburbs in 2:09:58, 21 seconds behind winner Geoffrey Kirui. Fellow Duck Shadrack Biwott (4th overall) and University of Arizona product Abdi Abdirahman (6th overall) rounded out the American men's top three.

For Rupp, who swapped the lead spot with Kiuri through the race's final miles before the Kenyan star pulled away, it's his second top-three major marathon finish in a year, having taken bronze in the event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

In the women's race, Ducks alum Jordan Hasay made the most of her Boston Marathon debut, placing 3rd overall and as the top American female finisher. Her time of 2:23:00 was the fastest by an American woman in her debut by a full three minutes. Just behind her in 4th was Arizona State's Desiree Linden, followed by Lindsay Flanagan, who competed for Washington.
