Oregon State

Jake Luton was named the starting quarterback for Oregon State on Monday, true to head coach Jonathan Smith’s timeline of when he’d name a starter. Nick Daschel notes in the link that Conor Blount and Jack Colletto are listed as co-backups.

UCLA

Meanwhile in Westwood, Thuc Nhi Nguyen points out that UCLA has yet to name a starting quarterback. Redshirt sophomore Devon Modster, grad transfer Wilton Speight and freshman Dorian Thompson-Robinson are all listed as possible starters on the Bruins’ most recent depth chart.

California

Rusty Simmons reports that Cal has released its season-opening depth chart, and, as expected, Ross Bowers is listed as the starting quarterback. The QB gig was called an “open competition” by the staff heading into spring practices, but Bowers was the starter last year and figured to be back under center to begin 2018.

Colorado

Brian Howell notes that Josh Kaiser will start at left tackle for Colorado in its season opener against 0-1 Colorado State (the Rams lost at home to Hawai’i in Week 0). Howell gives us some background on Kaiser in the link, noting he was only a two-star recruit out of high school.

Arizona

ArizonaWildcats.com sits down with freshman Brooke Wilson to profile how the Team USA camp invitee is adjusting to collegiate soccer. Here's a hint: she's already scored one goal (a dandy against Houston Baptist on Sunday) in her first three matches as a Wildcat.

Stanford

Tom FitzGerald reports that Stanford will be without six key players for its opener against San Diego State: Center Jesse Burkett, cornerback Alijah Holder (both starters), cornerback Malik Antoine, safety Brandon Simmons and linebackers Curtis Robinson and Jordan Perez are all out due to injury.

Oregon

Oregon athletics announced its gameday enhancements at Autzen Stadium for the 2018 football seasons. This had been reported before, but now that it’s official, a reminder – parking lots will open six hours before each game, beer and wine sales expanded to the main concourse and lower concession prices (including a $3 menu), for starters. USC

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Marqise Lee is out for the 2018 season because of a knee injury and will have surgery in the near future (ESPN). The former Trojan led the Jaguars in receptions in 2017 and signed a four-year, $34 million contract in March to remain in Jacksonville.

Washington

Hours after Manu Ginobili announced his retirement, Quincy Pondexter signed a one-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs (ESPN). Pondexter has been hampered by injury recently, appearing in 23 games in the 2017-18 season for the Chicago Bulls before being waived.

Arizona State

Jarrett Bell of USA TODAY whips up this feature story on Arizona State football coach Herm Edwards. While we’re at it, here’s the SC Featured piece on Edwards returning to coaching at Arizona State, in case you missed it on ESPN last weekend.

Utah

The NCAA has recognized the 2008 Utah football team as a national champion, Kurt Kragthorpe notes. The NCAA’s Football Records Book now includes the Utes as No. 1 in the final computer rankings used to determine who would play in the BCS national championship game during that era (the Utes went 13-0 that year and beat Alabama 31-17 in the Sugar Bowl).

Washington State

Missed this from over the weekend, but here’s CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd’s article on how Washington State is trying to move past Tyler Hilinski’s suicide.
