Roundup: Thriller in Eugene, Tiger earns first win in 5 years

What a game in Eugene, and what a weekend to be a Stanford fan. Barrett Sallee of CBS Sports gives us his takeaways from Stanford’s 38-31 overtime win at Oregon. The Cardinal looked dead in the water about five different times in that game but found a way to force OT and took advantage in the extra session. Also, how about the Big Cat winning his first PGA Tour event in five years? Ian O’Connor of ESPN details how Tiger Woods overcame obstacles in his life to secure his 80th PGA Tour victory at the Tour Championship Sunday.

Here’s John Canzano’s column on Oregon’s “collapse” against Stanford. No way around it, this was a tough one to swallow for the Ducks.

Check out Michael Lev’s five takeaways from Arizona’s 35-14 win at Oregon State. Impressive result for the Wildcats, and props to J.J. Taylor for his 284-yard performance on the ground (certainly helps to have Layth Freikh back on the offensive line).

Nick Daschel writes about Oregon State giving up 442 rushing yards to Arizona. A lot of people thought this was going to be a very close game, but Arizona outgained Jonathan Smith’s group 594-238 in yards of total offense.

Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times notes that USC quarterback JT Daniels is developing a connection with his receivers. Nice win for the Trojans over Washington State Friday night, and if this blogger may editorialize a bit, columnists and fans alike were being pretty unreasonable following the Trojans’ 1-2 start. USC is a very young team replacing the No. 3 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft with a kid who should be a senior in high school, its two losses are to ranked teams on the road and it just beat a Washington State team that has turned into a consistent winner over the last few years; not to mention that all Clay Helton has done is win a Rose Bowl and Pac-12 title in his first two full seasons.

Theo Lawson analyzes Washington State’s final drive against USC Friday night. I’m sure Coug fans are still upset about the non-targeting call for Porter Gustin’s hit on Gardner Minshew.

Adam Jude tells us what we learned from Washington’s 27-20 win over Arizona State Saturday night in Seattle. I learned that Nick Harris is the coolest center in college football.

Don’t play, get ranked – now that’s a good weekend. Cal football is ranked 24th in the latest AP poll following a bye and a slew of losses for teams in the back half of the top 25 from the week before. This is the first time the Golden Bears have been ranked since the 2015 season.

UCLA quarterback Devon Modster is transferring, he announced on Twitter Friday (Los Angeles Times). Modster was thought to be a candidate for the starting QB job in fall camp.

Kurt Kragthorpe looks at questions surrounding the Utah offense heading into the Washington State game on Saturday in Pullman, with how running back Armand Shyne will be used chief among them.

Hats off to Arizona State women’s volleyball for outlasting Cal in five sets to snap a 21-match conference losing skid (Pac-12 Networks recap).

Colorado volleyball dropped a five-setter to No. 14 USC Sunday afternoon in Boulder to drop to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in league cation despite 18 kills from Alexa Smith. Pat Rooney has your recap in the link.
