Utah

Ashley May of USA TODAY gives us this piece on remembering former Utah track athlete Lauren McCluskey, who was killed Monday night. High-profile people in Utah shared their condolences for McCluskey and her family on social media (Deseret News), including Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, BYU AD Tom Holmoe (great gesture by the BYU students to wear red on Wednesday) and Utah governor Gary Herbert. We should note that there is a vigil Wednesday night at 5 p.m. MT on the steps of the Park Building, and you can send your condolences by clicking on the preceding link.

USC

USC men’s basketball will play TCU at Dickie’s Arena on Dec. 6, 2019, in what will be the first collegiate game in the new Fort Worth venue (the 14,000-seat arena is scheduled to open November 2019).

Washington State

Washington State coach Mike Leach thinks that the Pac-12 might be the deepest conference in the country, saying that if there was a tournament with the lower-tiered teams in each conference, “we’d crush the bottom of theirs.” We won’t argue that point here (Theo Lawson on the story).

UCLA

Ben Bolch writes about Wilton Speight getting another opportunity as UCLA’s quarterback. He did a bang-up job in relief of the injured Dorian Thompson-Robinson, leading the Bruins to a 31-30 win over Arizona Saturday night.

Colorado

Colorado men’s basketball coach Tad Boyle expressed his disagreement with Mike Krzyzewski’s comments on the FBI investigation into college basketball. Coach K has referred to the contents of the FBI investigation into the corruption of college basketball as a “blip” and “not what’s going on” in college hoops (Pat Rooney with the verbiage).

Oregon

Getting ready for Saturday night’s game in Tucson, Oregon football coach Mario Cristobal thinks that Arizona “could beat anyone in the Pac-12.” Erik Skopil of Oregon’s 247Sports has the story.

Arizona State

Harley Yearout of Cronkite News looks at the hype surrounding the Arizona State football program and how “excitement has shifted to a wait-and-see mentality.” The Sun Devils made headlines early by beating Michigan State and jumping into the top 25 but have lost four of the last five – albeit all by one score (FOX Sports providing the actual link).

Stanford

Jacob Myers of NCAA.com considers Stanford’s Catarina Macario one of the five most prolific scorers in women’s soccer this year. She is so, so talented; it’s ridiculous. Colorado’s Taylor Kornieck also gets some love here.

California

Appearing on NCAA.com, Steve Mims gives us a 2018-19 Cal women’s basketball season primer. The Golden Bears will be led by seniors Kristine Anigwe and Asha Thomas … but look out for Roundup Breakout Player of the Year candidate Alaysia Styles. She is going to be very, very good before her four years are up in Berkeley (you gotta make me look like I know what I’m talking about now, Alaysia; no pressure).

Oregon State

Oregon State defender Alex Cover was named Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, netting the game-winner against Cal on Sunday.

Arizona

Meanwhile, Arizona’s Lainey Burdett was named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week after allowing one combined goal over the weekend in wins against the Washington schools.

Washington

Adam Jude features Washington defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike, a redshirt sophomore who earned a nod on the Pro Football Focus national team of the week for his performance against Colorado.
