The non-conference kings are back at it again – Arizona State men’s basketball upset No. 15 Mississippi State 72-67 Monday night in the semifinals of the MGM Main Event in Las Vegas, getting the game-winning 3-pointer from Kimani Lawrence with 33 seconds left (AP recap). The Sun Devils play Utah State in the finals Wednesday night.

Nice win for the Wildcats over Iowa State in the quarterfinals of the Maui Invitational, but now the task gets significantly tougher. Check out Bruce Pascoe’s Arizona-Gonzaga scouting report. A win over the 2017 NCAA finalists means the Wildcats will likely get a shot at Zion Williamson and Duke in the finals.

Washington State quarterback Gardner Minshew II was named a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, awarded to the best college quarterback in the country. Minshew is going up against Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa (right now, the fan vote is heavily in favor of the ‘Stache).

Along those lines, Utah punter Mitch Wishnowsky was named a finalist for the Ray Guy Award (best punter in college football), becoming the first three-time finalist in the history of the award, it was announced Tuesday morning. Guy will be going up against Texas A&M’s Braden Mann and Cincinnati’s James Smith.

USC men’s basketball lost to Texas Tech on Monday night, but Bennie Boatwright reached 1,000 career points, becoming the 40th Trojan to do so (Pac-12 Networks).

In UCLA’s 80-65 win over Presbyterian on Monday night, Jalen Hill became the first Bruin since Kevin Love to grab 20 rebounds in a game, and he talked about that feat with our Roxy Bernstein after the win.

Stanford men’s soccer redshirt senior Adam Mosharrafa was named Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Dude has a 3.52 GPA as a computer science major, all the while helping lead the Cardinal in its quest to a fourth straight natty.

How about that Monday Night Football game, huh? The Los Angeles Rams beat the Kansas City Chiefs 54-51 in an instant classic, and former Cal quarterback Jared Goff proved he can go blow-for-blow with any quarterback in the league, writes Lindsey Thiry of ESPN. Goff threw for 413 yards and four touchdowns, completing the game-winning touchdown pass to Gerald Everett in the final two minutes.
