Arizona

In attempt to quiet the noise around a Sunday report from the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, Washington State football coach Mike Leach told reporters he has no interest in returning to Texas Tech.

Oregon State

Oregon State quarterback Conor Blount will transfer, he announced Monday. Blount played in nine games for the Beavers in 2018 and said he has been given his full release from Oregon State.

Arizona State

While it’s certainly cool that Luguentz Dort was named Pac-12 Player of the Week, did you see that James Harden went for 54 points and 13 assists (to go along with 11 turnovers) in the Houston Rockets’ 135-131 overtime loss to the Washington Wizards Monday night? Incredible. Harden, Eric Gordon and Washington’s John Wall and Bradley Beal combined for 158 points, an NBA record for both teams’ starting backcourts.

Oregon

No Bueno – No. 18 Oregon men’s basketball was upset by Texas Southern 89-84 Monday night in Eugene despite 32 points and 11 rebounds from Bol Bol. Texas Southern has been a pretty good program in recent years, and they did beat Baylor to start the season, but uh, never a good thing to lose a guarantee game.

Colorado

Colorado runner and NCAA individual champion Dani Jones was named a finalist for the Honda Award for Cross Country, it was announced Monday. Oregon’s Jessica Hull is also a finalist.

Stanford

As one would expect with a College Cup-bound team, Stanford women’s soccer was well-represented on the United Coaches All-Pacific Region team, with Alana Cook, Jordan DiBiasi, Alison Jahansouz, Catarina Macario and Tegan McGrady being selected to the squad.

USC

Mark Whicker of the Los Angeles Daily News takes a long-term view at the state of USC football and what it needs to do to return to the elite under Clay Helton.

California

Cal field hockey sophomore Megan Rodgers was named all-region by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, it was announced Monday.

UCLA

In case you missed it, former UCLA men’s basketball great Willie Naulls died Thursday at the age of 84 (Los Angeles Times). Naulls became the first black team captain in integrated pro sports history when he was named captain of the New York Knicks in 1956.
