Washington cracked the top 10 at No. 9 in the final College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings released Sunday morning. The Huskies led a pack of three ranked teams from the Pac-12, with Washington State staying at No. 13 and Utah standing pat at No. 17.

The College Football Playoff field is set, with SEC champion and top-ranked Alabama playing Big 12 champion and fourth-ranked Oklahoma in one semifinal, and ACC champion and second-ranked Clemson taking on third-ranked and undefeated Notre Dame in the other semifinal.

Washington

People can complain about the lack of offense in Friday night’s Pac-12 Football Championship Game all they want, but that Washington defense (and Utah defense) was something serious all season long and the unit more than lived up to its billing in Santa Clara, outscoring the Utah offense to pave the way for a 10-3 title game victory. While the College Football Playoff was never going to be a reality for the Huskies, the CFP did take notice and elevated the Huskies up two spots to No. 9, making the Dawgs the top-ranked three-loss team in the country. The ninth-ranked Dawgs will take on the Big Ten champs and sixth-ranked Ohio State in the Rose Bowl for a shot to bring some more street cred back to the Pac.

Washington State

The Cougs lobbied as best as they could, but with no game this weekend Washington State was unable to crack the top 12, as the 10-2 Cougs remained behind 9-3 Florida, 9-3 LSU and 9-3 Penn State at No. 13. The official bowl announcements will come out at 12 p.m. PT, but it’s looking like Washington State is headed to the Alamo Bowl.

Utah

The Utes dropped to 9-4 after the hard-fought loss to Washington in the Pac-12 Football Championship Game, but the committee must have liked what they saw out of Kyle Whittingham’s bunch to keep them at No. 17 for the third consecutive week. We’ll find out the Utes’ bowl destination later this afternoon, but wherever they’ll play, Utah will have a chance for a 10-win season for the second time in four seasons.
