SAN FRANCISCO - For the 14th year in a row and the 18th time in the last 19 years, the Pac-12 is the winningest conference in the country, leading all leagues in NCAA Championships won in 2018-19. Member institutions collected 13 NCAA titles this academic year, one shy of the all-time record, with seven different institutions capturing at least one crown.

The “Conference of Champions®” has collected double-digit NCAA titles for the fourth-consecutive year and for the fifth time in the last six years. No other conference has ever reached double digits in an academic year. The 13 titles came in the form of eight women’s championships, four men’s and one combined sport title.

The Pac-12 nearly tripled the next-closest conference in 2018-19 with the ACC and Big 12 tying for second with five titles each, followed by the Big Ten and SEC with four.

In addition to the 13 NCAA crowns, Pac-12 teams recorded seven runner-up finishes and at least one team placed in the top four of 21 championships. In nine sports, there were at least two teams among the final four, including all-Pac-12 finals in beach volleyball, men’s water polo and women’s water polo.

Five institutions claimed multiple NCAA titles this season, two of them are from the Pac-12. STANFORD led the nation with a single-season record-tying six NCAA titles in 2018-19, matching the record it set in 1996-97. The Cardinal also extended its streak of at least one NCAA Championship to 43 years. Stanford captured its NCAA-leading eighth women’s volleyball championship, third-straight women’s swimming & diving title, its sixth men’s gymnastics crown, captured its NCAA-leading seventh women’s water polo championship, claimed its nation-leading 20th women’s tennis title, and wrapped up the year with men’s golf winning its first NCAA Championship since 2007.

UCLA was also a multiple-championship winner, claiming its second-straight beach volleyball championship and its NCAA-leading 12th softball crown. In addition, COLORADO dominated the women’s cross country field, led by individual winner Dani Jones. USC won its 10th championship in men’s water polo, UTAH skiing won its second title in three years, while CALIFORNIA men’s swimming & diving built a commanding 85-point cushion to win its first national title since 2014. WASHINGTON women’s rowing swept all three grand finals to win the NCAA Championship for the second time in three years.

This year’s haul of titles adds to the Pac-12’s championship reputation. Conference teams have, by far, claimed the most national championships in the country all-time at 526, over 200 more than the next closest league. Only three institutions across all divisions have won at least 100 NCAA titles all-time and all three are Pac-12 members. Stanford leads all institutions with 123 all-time NCAA titles, followed by UCLA with 118. USC is third with 107 NCAA Championships, more than double the next-closest institution — the Big 12’s Oklahoma State (51).

The moniker “Conference of Champions®” not only has been earned by the number of titles, but also the depth of success. Pac-12 teams have won championships in 29 of the 37 Division I sports the NCAA currently sponsors and has reached double digits in 20 of those sports. The Pac-12 also leads the nation in NCAA titles in 14 NCAA sports.

Overall, the Pac-12 has claimed more NCAA titles in 53 of the last 59 years and finished second five times. It has also claimed at least six titles every year except one since the NCAA began sponsoring women's sports in 1981-82, an average nearly nine NCAA Championships per year.
