SAN FRANCISCO — Even without the nation's No. 2 recruiting class, a Tara VanDerveer-coached squad would be feared in the deep Pac-12 race. But add in four freshmen, including the No. 1 recruit overall, and you have a recipe for another successful year on the The Farm.

Stanford added 5-star Haley Jones, 5-star Francesca Belibi, 4.5-star Hannah Jump and 4-star Ashten Prechtel to the roster. The class garnered plenty of attention Monday at 2019 Pac-12 Women's Basketball Media Day. And for good reason.

Jones is lauded for her "positionless" attack. Belibi is known nationally for her dunking ability. And Jump and Prechtel will give the Cardinal uncanny depth as the program aspires to reach the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 and beyond for an incredible 13th straight season.

VanDerveer has been pleased to see the class's development overall. They're jumping without hesitation.

"The freshmen have gotten a lot of reps," said VanDerveer. "And I think our upperclassmen have really helped them a lot to learn things. They take them aside, they show them things. They're helping them. But some of it is the freshmen are the ones that are out there a lot, and I think they're doing very well."

Even with a talented incoming class, VanDerveer, DiJonai Carrington and Kiana Williams said they don't feel any external pressure. That's the benefit of a Hall of Fame coach entering her 34th season at the helm. Carrington and Williams averaged a combined 28.3 points a game last season.

"The pressure is from within," VanDerveer said. "There's never any pressure from outside at all. Pressure is from within to be the best that we can be, and we know we have a lot of talent, but we also know we have a lot of work to do."
