SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced today the All-Pac-12 honors for the 2019 men’s soccer season, as selected by a polling of Conference head coaches. Washington midfielder Blake Bodily was voted Pac-12 Player of the Year while Husky defender Ethan Bartlow earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Stanford’s Ousseni Bouda was tabbed Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Washington head coach Jamie Clark earned his second-career Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors after leading the Huskies to the Conference title. The All-Conference teams were also announced.

Pac-12 Player of the Year – Blake Bodily, Jr., M, Washington (Eagle, Idaho)
Washington’s Blake Bodily earned Pac-12 Player of the Year honors after leading UW to its first Conference title since 2013. The junior led the Huskies in goals this year with a career-best 10, good for the second-best total in the Conference. The Eagle, Idaho native also notched a career-high 25 points to lead UW and rank second in the Pac-12 in 2019. Bodily notched a goal or assist in 12 of the 16 games in which he played, adding four game-winning strikes to his ledger. The midfielder helped Washington earn the No. 6 overall seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Bodily becomes the fourth Washington student-athlete to be named Pac-12 Player of the Year, joining Ely Allen (co-2007), Kevin Forrest (2006), and C.J. Klaas (co-2004). Bodily won consecutive Pac-12 Player of the Week awards (Oct. 22, 29) this season and became the first player since San Diego State’s Travis Nicklaw in 2016 to earn two-straight Conference weekly honors. The three-time All-Pac-12 First Team honoree was named to the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year – Ethan Bartlow, So., D, Washington (Woodinville, Wash.)
Washington’s Ethan Bartlow was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. The sophomore started 17 games and anchored the Husky back line that posted 11 shutouts this season and finished eighth in the country in team goals against average (0.606). Bartlow also showed offensive prowess in 2019, notching a career-best three goals, including a free kick game-winner (81’) against Portland on Sept. 29 to secure a 1-0 victory for UW. Bartlow, an All-Pac-12 First Team honoree, becomes the first Husky to earn Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors as Stanford defenders won the first five defensive honors since the award’s inception in 2014. 

Pac-12 Freshman of the Year – Ousseni Bouda, Fr., F/M, Stanford (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso)
Stanford’s Ousseni Bouda was tabbed Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Bouda started all 18 games in his debut campaign for the Cardinal, notching five goals and five assists for a team-best 15 points on the year. The forward/midfielder tied for the team-lead with three game-winning goals. He also notably scored in his collegiate debut in Stanford’s season-opening 5-0 victory over Penn State (Aug. 30). Bouda is the third Stanford student-athlete to be named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, joining Aaron Kovar (2012) and Bobby Warshaw (2007). Bouda is also the only freshman to be selected to the 2019 Pac-12 All-Conference First Team and helped the Cardinal to the No. 7 overall seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Pac-12 Coach of the Year – Jamie Clark, Washington
Washington head coach Jamie Clark was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year after leading the Huskies to their third-ever Conference title and first since 2013, snapping Stanford’s streak of five-straight league titles. Clark guided UW to a 15-3 regular season record and the No. 6 overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Under his guidance, the Huskies led the Conference in goals (38) and assists (37) and tied for a league-low in goals allowed (11). Washington’s eight conference wins were the most for the Huskies since the Pac-12 began sponsoring men’s soccer in 2000. UW’s season-opening win against Denver was good for Clark’s 100th-career victory with the Huskies. Washington opened the year 14-1-0 and was the country’s top-ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches national poll from Oct. 22 – Nov. 12. 

This is Clark’s second-career Pac-12 Coach of the Year honor, earning his first accolade in 2013. Clark is the second Washington coach to earn annual Conference distinction as former Husky head coach Dean Wurzberger was a co-recipient of the award in 2004.
