The opening night of the 2020 Pac-12 Men’s Swimming Championships ended with excitement as No. 2 California and No. 16 Stanford both took top spots on the podium. The Bears earned their fifth-straight 800-yard freestyle relay title and an NCAA 'A' standard with the fastest time in the league this year (6:11.47). The Cardinal earned the 400-yard medley relay title for the first time since 2012 with a time of 3:06.81. After one day of relays, four teams earned NCAA 'A' cuts and three teams earned 'B' cuts. 

800 Free Relay
• California’s squad of Zheng Quah, Bryce Mefford, Danie Carr, Trenton Julian defended the Bears’ title for the fifth-straight year. Their winning time of 6:11.47 was the fastest in the Conference this season and was good for an NCAA 'A' cut.
• Arizona State’s Jack Dolan, Carter Swift, Liam Brusette and Cody Bybee came in second with a time 6:12.17, also good for an NCAA 'A' standard and the second-fastest time in the league this year.
• Arizona’s Daniel Namir, Jorge Iga, Hunter Ingram and Brooks Fail came in third place and their time of 6:14.80 earned them an NCAA 'A' cut and the third-best time in the Conference.
• Stanford (6:15.79) also earned an NCAA 'A' cut, and USC (6:21.40) earned a 'B' cut

400 Medley Relay
• Stanford’s Benjamin Ho, Hank Poppe, Alex Liang and Mason Gonzalez took first in the 400 medley relay for the first time since 2012. The Cardinal recorded the second-fastest time the league has seen this season (3:06.81) also good for an NCAA 'B' cut.
• Utah’s team of David Fridlander, Andrew Britton, Deryk Cooper and Liam O’Haimhirgin came in second with an NCAA 'B' stanford time of 3:07.49.
• Arizona earned its second third-place finish of the night with Thomas Anderson, Ryan Foote, Noah Reid and Marin Ercegovic clocking in at 3:08.04.
