Utah tops Washington to earn the inaugural Conference Title

SAN FRANCISCO - Utah edged out the GymDawgs in a closely contested meet to claim the conference title

  • Five teams in the Top-15 of the latest rankings.
  • Arizona's Davis earns this week's Coach's Choice Award.

PAC-12 TEAM NOTES

ARIZONA - The GymCats earned season-high scores of 49.200 on vault and 49.175 on beam. Six GymCats earned season-high scores and five earned career-best scores. Sophomore Kennedi Davis earned a career-best on the beam with a score of 9.875. Laura Leigh Horton and Malia Hargrove earned career-highs on the floor by posting 9.80 and 9.90 respectively. Rounding out the GymCats Maddi Leydin and Jenny Leung earned career-highs on vault and balance beam with 9.875 and 9.975 respectively. 

ARIZONA STATE -  The SunDevils scored a season-high 196.575 points for the second time this season. The score contributed to the second consecutive road win for the SunDevils. Junior Cairo Leonard-Baker scored a 9.925 on both bars and floor. The SunDevils scored 49.300 on bars which was the highest score posted since 2018. 

CALIFORNIA -   Junior Nina Schank made her collegiate debut in the all-around and was crowned the champion of both the floor and all-around to seal the victory in Haas Pavilion for the Golden Bears. Maya Bordas shined once more on bars as she posted a new career-high 9.925 to win the event. Cal wraps up regular-season conference action at UCLA, where the Bears will face the Bruins in a dual meet on Sunday, March 8. 

OREGON STATE -  Junior Kaitlyn Yanish won the floor exercise event title with a score of 9.950 and four OSU gymnasts set career-highs in the meet. Senior Halli Briscoe, who posted a 9.950 on the uneven bars. Freshman Kayla Bird set a career-high with a 9.875 on the floor. The Beavers welcome Utah into Gill for the last conference contest of their season on Friday, March 6.

STANFORD - The Cardinal exploded for a 49.625 score on the floor during its final rotation of the night. This was the highest score posted in the last 16 years for the Cardinal. That lineup on the floor was led by Senior Kaylee Cole's personal best 9.90 in her final performance at home. Chloe Widner followed by matching her season-best at 9.900 before Morgan Hoang (9.925), Kyla Bryant (9.975) and Taylor Lawson (9.925) each followed with consecutive personal-best routines.

UCLA -  The Bruins had their hands full with Beavers. They commanded a .350 lead going into the final rotation. The Bruins shut down any comeback the Beavers had in store by posting a season-high-tying team score of 49.525.  Senior Felicia Hano won the second all-around title of her career, scoring 39.450. Kyla Ross walked away with three event titles vault, bars and beam. 

UTAH - The clutch performance by Abby Paulson anchored the Red Rocks win with 9.95 points on beam to leave the Huskies needing a 10.0 on the floor to tie. Missy Reinstadtler won the bars (9.925) and floor (9.975) event titles against Washington for her second and third event victories this season. Reinstadtler's 9.975 on the floor was a career-high. Kim Tessen won her third vault title of the season (9.925) and her ninth career.

WASHINGTON - The GymDawgs were pushed to the limits in an action-packed competition of the Conference's undefeated teams. Utah edged them out 197.675-197.600. The GymDawgs were given great contributions all night by Evanni Roberson. The senior and Washington native scored a perfect ten on beam to help the GymDawgs tied the match at 148.125 apiece before heading into the final rotation. The GymDawgs take their talents to Corvallis with a match against the Beavers on Friday.
