Improved 2019-20 Pac-12 Men's Basketball campaign cut short
3/12/20 - The 2019-20 Pac-12 Men’s Basketball (and NCAA Division I) season officially ended on March 12, 2020, prior to the start of the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals, due to national and global concerns stemming from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
• It marked the first time since 1944 that a Pac-12 program did not participate in NCAA Tournament competition.
• The tournament was canceled and therefore no champion will be declared.
• The Pac-12 was one of four leagues to finish with at least six 20-win teams (ACC, Big Ten, WCC).
• The 11 triples eclipsed the previous all-time mark of 10 (accomplished five times, first in 1993) and also broke the previous tournament record of eight set by Klay Thompson in 2011.
• Pritchard also led the league with 88 threes (2.8 3FGM), joining Stoudamire (112 3FG) as the only players to top all three categories in the same season
• Pritchard (4.3 rpg, 41.5% 3FG) is just the fourth major conference player in the last 29 seasons to post averages of at least 20.0 points, 5.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 40% 3FG per CBB Reference (Damon Stoudamire, ARIZ 1994-95; Markelle Fultz, WASH 2016-17; Frank Mason, Kansas 2016-17).
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN?: BracketMatrix.com, an aggregator of 97 bracketologies, predicted six Pac-12 berths for the 2020 NCAA Tournament with a seventh among First Four Out.
TRES TERRIFIC: Tres Tinkle became the 43rd three-time All-Conference performer in league history - the first since Washington’s Isaiah Thomas in 2010-11. He finished his career in the Conference’s all-time top 10 in scoring (overall and Conference-only), field goal attempts, and free throws made and attempted.
POINT GODS: Two of the Pac-12’s top point guards joined the Conference’s short list of players to accumulate 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists in a career:
OREGON’s Payton Pritchard - 1,938p/659a/550r
COLORADO’s McKinley Wright IV - 1,370p/501a/505r
Only three other players - all point guards - in league history reached those marks: Ron Lee (ORE), Pooh Richardson (UCLA) and Andre Miller (UTAH, prior to joining Pac-12).
In the case of Pritchard, he is the only player in Conference history to reach 1,900 points, 600 assists and 500 rebounds.
